Correspondence and Subject Files

 Series

Scope and Contents

The records consist of incoming and outgoing correspondence and subject files of the administrators of the New Orleans Public Library, primarily those of the City Librarian. Of particular interest to the history of NOPL are records documenting the construction and furnishing of the Main Library at 219 Loyola Avenue, which opened in 1958. Donations to the Library over the years are also documented, as are the Library's early automation projects, branch library construction and repair, budgetary matters, and activities of the NOPL Board of Directors.
