Office of Communications records , 2002-2010

 Series

Scope and Contents

The records have been described to best maintain the original order of the file structure as the City Archives received it. Material with related subject matter will be dispersed througout the series, and patrons are encouraged to search the entire series for relevant material.

With the exception of a series of photographic prints, all of the records transferred by the Office of Communications are in digital format. File types are, for the most part, limited to those produced by Microsoft Office software (Word, Power Point, Excel, Access, Publisher), PDF, and image formats (JPEG, PNG, and TIFF etc.). Some video files are included. When possible these file formats have been converted from proprietary or at-risk formats to more stable formats. Converted formats include pdfs, jpgs, and mp4s, and can be viewed and downloaded through the link provided on each item. Multimedia powerpoint presentations have been converted to simple pdf due to copyright concerns regarding background music used, although the choice of music will be noted.

The records include disaster response and preparedness materials, department meeting minutes, internal reports and updates on events and initatives sponsored by the Mayor's Office, radio and television scripts, brochure and billboard designs, and invoices for advertisements. Also included are profiles of businesses and residents used to highlight the city's recovery. Hurricane preparedness and recovery material has been particularly noted, especially when it is embedded within other files, such as "Marketing."
