Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

In addition to the ordinances and resolutions themselves, included are lists of individuals authorized by the Council to receive relief benefits and occasional letters and documents. Volume 1 of sub-series 2 also includes, at the rear of the book, records of emancipations of enslaved people before the Third Municipality Council, June 29, 1846 - March 3, 1851. These records include copies of the petitions for emancipation (giving name of petitioner, name and age of the enslaved person(s), and date of consideration of the petition) and a record of the proceedings ratifying decisions initially made on each petition. These documents were digitized as part of Louisiana State University's digital collection: Free People of Color in Louisiana: Revealing an Unknown Past
Ordinances and Resolutions are divided into two sub-series.
