Piazza d'Italia Project records, 1976-1982
Scope and Contents
These records were received in April, 1991, from staff members of the Office of Business and Industrial Development. They all deal in some way with the Piazza d'Italia project and include information from its early stages of development through its construction and dedication. As such the records represent the work of staff members in both the Moon Landrieu and Ernest N. Morial administrations. They appear to have been created and/or collected by staff members in the Mayor's Office of Urban Development, which later became the Office of Policy Planning and Analysis. Key individuals in these offices included Tony Gagliano, John Chrestia, Louise Glickman, Gino Carlucci and Steve Villavaso. All of these people are well represented in the records, along with the architects, contractors, financial advisors, and other consultants hired by the city for the project.
The records also include various "housekeeping" records of questionable research value, including vouchers and invoices, handwritten notes, drafts of project documents, daily construction reports, architects' change orders, and similar documents.

Arrangement
There was some attempt at City Hall to arrange the records some time prior to their transfer to the Archives, with the records being divided into several general categories as indicated below:
Developing and Potential Developers [A]
Stanson/Foran and Greer [B]
Information from Other Developments [C]
Potential Tenants [D]
Financing [E]
Piazza Development [F]
Perez [G]
The letters following each category were added during the preliminary inventory process by Archives staff. These letters appear following the folder number within the inventory.
The records are arranged by folder numbers assigned by the processor.
Processing Information
Approximately two cubic feet of material was weeded from the records during the preliminary inventory. Most of this included obvious duplicates and material collected for informational purposes during the course of the Piazza project. Much of the weeded material came from categories C and D.
