Scope and Contents

These photographs of the New Orleans Public Lirbary are from the Municipal Government Photograph Collection. The collection is focused on New Orleans Public Library locations and services throughout New Orleans. Photographs span a wide range of years, from the early days of the original Carnegie libraries in the early 1900s through NOPL’s post-Katrina years (2005-2010). The collection includes many images of original library buildings, both interior and exterior, as well as significant events occurring at library locations. A bulk of the collection focuses on the Main Library (often referred to as the Central Library). Included are photographs of the original construction and subsequent renovations of the Marin Library at 219 Loyola as well as photographs of interior arrangements and evolving library services. Additional photographs are available to view by appointment.
