Visual Arts, Children
Scope and Contents
During the late 1970s the Arts Council made use of funds from the federal government's Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) to hire artists for a variety of projects. These records document the artists and projects, as well as ACNO's interaction with the municipal agencies responsible for monitoring CETA funds and their use.
The "Murals, K&B" file documents the battle over the creation of an outdoor mural on the Broadway wall of the K&B drugstore at the corner of St. Charles Ave. The "Photographers/Writers Project" file is one of several in the Arts Council collection that do cuments the production of two publications: Creoles of New Orleans, gens de couleur (people of color)--writings by Lyla Hay Owen with photographs by Owen Murphy and Neighbors, soul of the city--text by Andrew J. Kaslow with photographs by A ndrew J. Pickett. The "Documentation Forms" folders contain detailed records of the daily activities of the artists funded by CETA money.
