Biographical / Historical
The convention was called to promote the building of railroads in the Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas region. Delegates attended from throughout the region (and from as far away as St. Louis, Virginia, and Florida), but the Louisiana contingent was the largest and it proceeded to dominate the proceedings.
