Biographical / Historical
The Sidney Bechet Centennial Celebration took place in May 1997 and celebrated the contributions of New Orleanian Sidney Bechet to Jazz Music. The mayor appointed a special City Commission to cordinate city governmental operations. In addition there was an esteemed Steering Committee and several host institutions: UNO Midlo Center, UNO Jazz Studies Division and the Cercle d'Etudes Afro-Americans af the University of Paris. The celebration includes concerts, receptions, and a two day conference.
