Biographical / Historical
The New Orleans Sewerage Company was incorporated in 1892 in order to acquire and operate the franchise originally awarded by the City to A.A. Woods (by ordinance #6142 C.S.). The company began work on the sewerage system in 1894 but suspended it in the following year after having completed 4 3/4 miles of line. In 1896 the company entered into receivership and in 1902, after years of litigation, its property was purchased by the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board.
