Scope and Contents
The collection consists of material gathered by Mrs. McCusker as a participant in numerous civic-, church-, and library-related activities or organizations in New Orleans. Included are correspondence relating to specific activities; meeting notices, agendas and minutes; membership, volunteer and personnel records; conference material; charters, articles of incorporation and/or by-laws for several organizations; financial reports; final and/or draft versions of reports and studies; informational flyers and pamphlets; news releases and news clippings. Also included are miscellaneous groups of personal notes, general and personal correspondence, Invitations, cookbooks, and reports or publications collected by McCusker.
Among the organizations or activities in which McCusker played a prominent role are the Algiers 201 citizens Advisory Group, Citizens Committee of the Regional Planning Forum, Committee on Charter Revision, The Food Bank/Second Harvesters, Louisiana Democratic Convention (1980), Louisiana: Priorities for the Future Conference, Lower Algiers Senior citizens Center, Mayor's Algiers Task Force, Mayor's Conference on Education, Metropolitan Area Committee, Morial/Mayor Campaign Committee, New Orleans Commission on the Bicentennial of the Constitution, Round Table of Human Relations Groups of Greater New Orleans, VIA Westbank Advisory Committee, VICOR Advisory Council, Woodland MultiService Senior Citizens Center, Catholic Human Relations Commission of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Louisiana Congress of Religious Educators, Louisiana Interchurch Conference, St. Andrew the Apostle Senior citizens Mass and Social, Supplemental Food Program, United Churches of Algiers Emergency Fund, Governor's Conference on Libraries, Community Access Corporation and the New Orleans Public Library Board of Directors. McCusker was also involved with various community projects in Algiers.

Biographical / Historical
Ruth McCusker was born in New Orleans on April 26, 1924 and reared in West Baton Rouge Parish. She attended St. Mary of the Pines Academy in Chatawa, Mississippi and Louisiana State University. In 1946 she married Joseph H. McCusker, Jr.; they had two sons, Joseph H., III, and John Patrick.
