The records are subject/correspondence files transferred from the office of the City Librarian, covering the day-to-day business of the office during the tenure of directors C. Daniel Wilson (1985-1997), Gertiana C. Williams (1997-2004), and, to a lesser extent, William Johnson (2004-2006). (Both Williams and Johnson served as Acting City Librarian prior to their formal appointments.) Following Johnson's departure in 2006, Tulane University Dean of Libraries Lance Query served briefly as Interim Director until City Librarian Donna Schremser was appointed in September, 2007. Only a few files from the 2006-2007 time period are included. Files pertaining to personnel matters were removed.
