St. Louis Cathedral recapitulation of construction expenses
Scope and Contents
One page manuscript (dated March 25, 1851) recapitulation of labor and material expenses for construction of the new cathedral building under contract with John P. Kirwan. The expenses are divided by category of work (i.e., masonry, carpentry, roofing, locks, and paving), with a total of $85,730. It is signed by Sampson [Alexander H. Sampson, hired to superintend completion of the project following the collapse of the cathedral's central tower and Kirwan's subsequent departure from the job]. The document appears to represent expenses up until the time of Kirwan's termination. It is probably from a civil court suit record, but there is no docket number present nor is a court identified.
