Biographical / Historical
According to the 1998 city operating budget, the Council Fiscal Office reviews and advises the Council on budget and fiscal issues, provides staff support to committees, and provides liaison with the city's independent auditors. The office also staffs the Board of Review, a constitutionally mandated function of the City Council. It is staffed by a fiscal officer, an assistant fiscal officer (both unclassified positions), a principal analyst, and an executive secretary. The budget provided for a Council Fiscal Officer for the first time in 1978. Prior to that time, the Council Research Office provided support to the Council on budgetary and other fiscal matters.
