Biographical / Historical

Frank Friedler was appointed by the City Council to the District A seat following Peter Beer's resignation in August 1974. He then won a special election for the seat in 1976 and was re-elected to serve a full term in 1977; however, Friedler resigned in February of 1980.

Friedler was born in New Orleans in 1934 and attended local Lusher and Isidore Newman schools. He went on to attend Yale University and graduated in 1955. Friedler served in the Navy and worked in insurance. In addition to her tenure on the New Orleans City Council, Friedler served on the the Audubon Park Commission and the boards of the Institute of Politics, Jewish Community Center, and the New Orleans Museum of Art. He passed away in 2009.
