Cheron Brylski papers

Scope and Contents

The papers document Brylski's work in the Morial administration as well as several subsequent political campaigns that she directed. Those campaigns include Morial's 1986 run for the District D seat on the City Council, Donald Mintz's 1989 run for the Mayor's Office, Ken Carter's 1993 run for Mayor, and David Shroyer's 2000 candidacy for the Orleans Parish School Board. Also included are a number of reports and other documents collected by Brylski during the course of her career.

Scope and Contents From the Series:

Transferred to the Archives in 1995 following the resignation of Dr. Brobson Lutz as Director of Health. Most of the records are listed as "General Files," but there is also a subseries of "AIDS Files." The records are especially strong for the period of Dr. Lutz's administration which began in 1983. Also of special interest is an extensive file on the "merger" of the Health Department with the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Resources.

Contains records related to public utilities in the city of New Orleans, including some records by the New Orleans Public Service Inc. (NOPSI), the Taxicab Bureau, Office of Telecommunications, and administrators. The records include subject files, project files, plans, correspondence between various departments, and volumes of bills, ledgers, and complaints.

Scope and Contents The records document both individual projects and ongoing Commission concerns. Among the former are files dealing with the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition and among the latter are files dealing with such matters as public buildings, streets, transportation, and zoning.They were transferred to the City Archives in several groups during the 1980s. Scope and Contents From the Collection:

A former superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department (1960-1975), Chief Giarrusso's interest in the NOPD and in law enforcement continued through his years on the Council, an interest that is reflected in these records. Other issues that are particularly well represented relate to public utilities policy and regulation, gambling and the city's proposed land-based casino, and anti-smoking legislation, for which the Chief acted as one of New Orleans' strongest advocates.

This collection includes 18 boxes of files from Fitzmorris's tenure as At-Large Councilmember. Major areas of focus are Leases on City owned property, the Sewerage and Water Board, and extensive recordkeeping of his appointments. This collection also includes a small amout of Fitzmorris' personal papers.
